Hi All,
This was one of the weekends where there were so many outstanding performances. The ladies division of the club has been strong the last few years but I think we are reaching even greater heights with some exceptional performances that I just don’t think you see in other clubs without specialist training.
On Saturday a trio of amazingly, brilliant women took on races over the longer distances and their results are truly incredible. Sophie Seward joined us earlier this year and has already become a vital part of our junior coaching division as well as in our ladies relay teams and on Saturday she lined up for the 100 mile centurion running event in Oxford for the second year in a row. She had an A-Goal which seemed like a stretch but she absolutely smashed it -WINNING in an incredible time of 18.25, over an hour ahead of the next female runner. Well done to Scott Williams for crewing and running the last 25 miles with Sophie as pace runner. What a performance Sophie!
Another iconic run was pulled off by Francesca Cole at the Jurassic Coast 100k event. For any Pacer to go and run an event with this sort of elevation gain is a feat with Suffolk not really providing us the right terrain for training but this was also the first time for Fran to tackle this distance and, like Sophie, she finished way above her expectations in an incredible time and in sixth place! Well done Fran and to Ryan Burrows for crewing her race. Also on the Jurassic Coast, Gem Carter finished third in the 50k event – super performance!
At the Abingdon Marathon on Sunday we had two more talented runners, Jane Wall and Katie King, representing England in the Masters event – with both collected podium places for their efforts, with Katie second in the v35s and Jane collecting a bronze in the v70 which is seriously impressive as she had been suffering an injury recently and not been able to run as much as she would have liked in training. Well done to you both!
Other brilliants runs this week were:
– Christine Anthony scored another world record in the v60 4x400m relay!! And Catherine Peck was part of the silver medal winning 4x100m relay team in the European Masters Athletics event!
– Jamie Fittock running at Battersea Half in a quick 1.29.
– Tom Kingsnorth completed a two weekends in a row half marathon by scoring another top ten finish in High Lodge Half Marathon. There were five Pacers running in this event – with Josh Carr next over the line is 1.48 and then Dean Hearn just behind in 1.55, Terry Nippress in 1.57 and Steve Pretty in 2.10. Amazing results all!
– Liam Guest-Hawkins received a shiny new PB at the Blickling Half Marathon in a time of 1.50.
– Laura Blazey and Bill Hill collected a ‘Z’ at Zuiderpark parkrun in Holland!
