Ekiden Relay

A team marathon

The Ekiden is a race which originated in Japan where teams of runners compete in a relay over long distances. The races are very popular and some attract television audiances of over 1 million.

Ipswich Jaffa Running Club have been staging the only Ekiden Relay held in the UK for over 20 years, and it is now a well-established fixture in the local racing calendar and attracts runners from all over East Anglia.

The Senior event is run over six stages and the combined distances of each leg (1 x 7.2k, 3 x 5k, 2 x 10k) is the equivalent of a Marathon ie 26.2 miles.

There is also a Junior event held for under 16s which comprises four legs of 1.1m each.

This event is free of charge and open to all Pacers, of all abilities.
