If you have any queries please contact our Membership Secretary. This year due to all the economic uncertainty we are offering reduced membership for anyone suffering financially. The aim of the club is to get people running together for health and wellbeing and we don’t want any financial issues to be a barrier to this so please do get in touch.

FAQ’s regarding joining a running club

FREE TRIAL?

In order to try first before signing up, we offer a trial of a couple of training sessions for the Older Juniors group (we all know too well how kids can quickly change their mind!). They are able to join training sessions so they can get a feel for if it is something they want to do or not.

WHERE AND WHEN DO WE MEET?

Training can vary where and when it takes place, however it is usually at the track at Abbeycroft Leisure in Bury St Edmunds. Once you are signed up then you will be granted access to our Junior Training Schedule.

Mini Pacers 6-9 years – Mondays 6.30pm to 7.30pm

Juniors 10 years and older – Mondays and Wednesdays 6-7pm

Abbeycroft Leisure
Beetons Way
Bury St Edmunds
IP33 3TT

The sessions are normally covered by a minimum of two coaches. Our coaching team remain with their groups for the majority of time for consistency. There is plenty of car parking around the venue.

WHAT SHOULD THEY WEAR AND BRING?

Children need to wear clothes that they can run in, feel comfortable, and are weather appropriate. Athletes will need adequate water all year round, and footwear appropriate to use on both grass and track; there is no requirement to buy specialist track or racing shoes. Summer training may require sunblock and insect repellent which is to be applied prior to the session. We ask that all children and parents/carers also observe our Code of Conduct. Non-running adults should remain outside the track perimeter fencing during training sessions from where they will be able to watch, or they can join in with the Senior session!

We are always seeking new energy and coaching staff and we would fully support anyone who wanted to start out as a Junior helper … and who knows what might develop. Coaches do not need to be runners themselves and if you are interested in getting involved then please do speak to any of the Junior coaching staff.

What about races?

The club actively encourages our Juniors to race.

During the summer (May, June, July) the club takes part in the “Friday 5 Series” which is made up of six races, including our own event held in Nowton Park. Each one of these races also has a Junior event and there will always be the opportunity to car share if needed. For more details please see Friday 5 Series info, although coaching staff will be happy to help with any questions.

The club also enjoys entering teams for the UK’s only ‘Ekiden Relay’ organised by Ipswich Jaffa Running Club in July. This is a lovely club day out with Pacers entering as many Senior and Junior teams as we can muster.

During the winter (October – March) the club’s key focus is the Suffolk Winter League Cross Country series. There are six races, one of which is hosted by Pacers at Pakenham, and each of these also has Junior Events.

Many of our athletes represent their schools and county during the schools cross country season and club coaches actively support and work towards successful schools racing.
