Friday 5 begins & 1st Brit at Cape Town Marathon

Hi All,

The Friday 5 series kicked off at Kirton, which always proves to be a popular event and sells out each year. There were plenty of Pacers in the senior and junior races, with brilliant results all round.

Pacers had some fine senior performances including three runners in the top ten. Well done to Andrew Southwood who was fourth overall and won his age category in a time of 27.54. Next in was Aidan Elmore in seventh in 28.34 and Thomas Smith in tenth – with these three taking out the team award. In the ladies division Katie King was first overall in 30.08, with Stacey Mockford, Anita Ward and Jenny Morgan winning their age category prize, with Jenny also taking a new club record in the v70 category in a time of 39.00. The ladies team also won with Jenny Steedman joining Katie and Stacey to claim that trophy.

The Bury leg of the six race series is on Friday 19th June, with the Sudbury 5 on Friday 6th June part of this year’s Pacers Grand Prix. Entries available here.

Congratulations to James O’Brien for finishing the Cape Town Marathon in 2.31 – this was remarkable as the first British runner home and being within the first 60 runners to cross the finish line! Cape Town hosted the Age Group Championships this year and could well be part of the Abbott Major Marathon series soon, so we may see more Pacers taking part.

One event I missed last week (sorry, so much going on so do always email if I have overlooked a run or event) was the Woodbridge 10k. Well done to Steve Hatten who finished strongly in the 10k and the three juniors who took part in the 1.5k race including Charlie Mitchell and Maisie Ablett.

Thank you to Izzy Hollands to organising this weekend’s social run, lots of members took part and enjoyed the routes from Brockley. Next Sunday will be from Bradfield Woods (IP30 0AQ) at 9am, with Ian organising tea and coffee after. Please do bring along a sweet treat or two if you can. There is plenty of parking available if you follow the postcode.

Bank Holiday Monday Training
Senior training and minis will run as normal tomorrow at 6.30pm. It will be hot so please take care and bring plenty of water.

Friday 5 Volunteers
We still need a few more volunteers for the Friday 5 at Nowton Park on 19th June. Please email Sandra who is ccd into this email if you can help, there are a few slots available for those who would like to run, but to help with registration etc.

Hope you have a great week in the sunshine.

Lara
