Pacers blaze a trail at Bury to Clare

Dear All,
A very busy weekend with Pacers out across Europe to record some amazing results! The closest race to home, the Bury to Clare Challenge is organised by one of our brilliant members Colin Lewis and supports all members of the community, with walkers and runners starting at Nowton Park and following the 18 miles of trails to Clare Country Park. This charity event supports St Nicholas Hospice and so there were a brilliant number of Pacers out running and walking. First home was Scott Williams, followed by Chris Mower, Josh Scarlett and Joe Carter. In the ladies division there were two Pacers in 1-2, well done to Nicky Bennett and Sophie Seward. There were also age category wins for Nicki, Sophie, Scott, Josh, Chris and Mat Norris. Congratulations to you all. As mentioned, this event welcomes everyone and it was great to see Clare and Peter Jay out on the course alongside so many members. Thank you to the support crew for cheering on the runners including Annie Richardson, Katie Margarson, Gem Carter, Ian Gooderham, the Hollands family at aid station one (brilliant sign!) and Todd Lewis at Somerton. Colin and the Fields and Forest team also organise the Fields and Forest Ultra in September, which is open for entries and includes a relay option this year. 
 
Over in Wales, a huge congratulations to Harvey Pearson for finishing the UTS 50k at Snowdonia on Saturday in a time of 13 hours and 11 minutes. Harvey has recently joined as a full member and I am sure there will be many more brilliant results to come from him over the longer distances. We have lots of members taking on the ultra distance this year including quite a harem at Suffolk Backyard Ultra in June. There is a separate chat on WhatsApp for all things ultra too.
Other highlights from the weekend included:
– In Latvia a marathon PB went to Jamie Fittock, with a brilliant time of 3.02. Jamie has had a brilliant training block and this was a great run, congratulations Jamie and enjoy those celebration beers 🙂
– Izzy Hollands won her age category on her 21st birthday at the Stadbroke Triathlon. Great work Izzy!
– Ian Gooderham was first (and only) Pacer home in the Stort 5 this morning with his fastest time so far this year.
 
Ekiden Relay Entries
Our next relay is the Ekiden event on Sunday 5th July in Ipswich.

Ipswich JAFFA have been staging the only Ekiden held in the UK since 1992, and it is now a well established fixture in the local racing calendar. It attracts runners from all over East Anglia, with the 2017 event having a record entry of 200 teams. There is a Junior Ekiden for those aged under 16.

The 26.2 mile race will be run by teams of six as a relay. Legs: 1 x 7.2km, 3 x 5km and 2 x 10km.

EMAC Report 
Thank you Christine for the report below:
Pacers successfully hosted the first round of the EMAC Track and Field league at our home track on May 6th.
The match consisted of 6 teams from East Anglia.
 
Our ladies team, combined with West Suffolk AC and Newmarket Joggers AC gained an incredible 118 points which puts them in first place, 9 points ahead of the next team, Cambridge and Coleridge.
 
The ladies achieved maximum points in the 1500m, with Helen, Cienna (NJ) Elke (NJ) and Jenny winning all four categories. Great to have Jenny back on the team winning her 1500m and 100m in the new W70 category.
 
Christine, Catherine and Anna  shared the  100m and 400m events with success.
 
The ladies covered most of the field events and with the help of Catherine, Dawn and Eloise and scored a total of 38 points.
 
The ladies won both relays which were  raced over 400m, 200m , 200m 400m.
 
The men scored a total of 63 points 
 
New members Eamon Coveney and Stephen Mead scored almost maximum points in their events.
 
Nearly all the track events were covered by Oly, Richard (NJ) Nathan, Mark L, Mark D, Ady Frost and Andy Fryatt(NJ).
 
Nathan gained a superb first in the Long Jump, and Ady gained valuable points in the same event with a third place.
 
We had enough athletes to fill two mens relay teams and the men took on the task brilliantly.
 
More coverage of field events on the mens side would help their point tally.

Sunday Socials 
We have a great line up for the Sunday Socials, and next week we will be at Brockley – Izzy Hollands has planned a 10 mile and 10k route and we will start at 9am. Details of where to meet will be posted on Whatsapp.

28th June – Pakenham/Great Barton – Fran hosting
5th July – no social run due to Ekiden Relay
2nd August – Drinkstone – Morgans hosting
