Our Masters track and field team had a very successful and fun filled night at Cambridge track on June 3rd.
A total of 16 athletes turned out on the night, which was a great response.
With several new members the ladies managed to cover almost every event and scored 106 points which now puts us 1st in the Eastern division league, by just one point.
On the track, Helen, Cienna, Christine, Jane , Catherine and Elke placed highly in all their races, while Anna and Eloise scored very valuable points in the 2k walk. We also managed a first and second place in the 4 x 100m relays.
The field events were covered by Dawn , Cheryl, Lesley ,Eloise and Catherine , and although we couldn´t cover pole vault, we achieved excellent results in the other events.
The men had a good turn out, with 7 predominantly track athletes covering all the track events, with a smattering of field events. They scored a total 74 points which puts them in 4th position at the moment.
This is a much better position than in previous years.
New members Keiron and Nathan scored excellent points in the 2k walk, surprising themselves.
Nathan is more of a sprinter and neither of them had race walked before.
Nathan, Richard, Malcolm, Shane , Keiron, Eamonn and Oly covered the 200m, 800m and 3000m with Eamonn and Old achieving PBs in their events.
Richard and Andy took on the triple jump and javelin with a lot of success and valuable points.
The mens 4 x 100m relay team came a brilliant second which shows they have a lot of potential over the shorter distance as well as the longer distance.
The next match is at Kings Lynn on July 1st.
As always if you are interested in competing in this fun league, please let me know.
