Rain, Grit and Relentless Determination at Thetford Backyard Ultra

Hi All,

Another week and another host of endurance superstars were out. Over the last few years Pacers have been out in force at the local Backyard Ultra in Thetford. This event is not for the faint hearted, with runners heading out on 4.167 mile loops every hour, on the hour, for as long as they can. We had nine members taking part and they recorded some seriously impressive results with many suffering unfortunate events leading up to, and during, the race:
These kind of events could not happen without an absolute army of volunteers, with the weather damp there was a lot of wet kit and gazebos to tidy away and transport back to the vehicles after the runners finished, as well as the area being set up beforehand of course. A huge shoutout to Todd Lewis who was there for both and to everyone else who helped and came to cheer on their team mates, it takes a village to even get to the start line of these races!
We had two Pacers out in Ironman events on Sunday, with Phil Crutchlow finishing his first event over the 70.3 distance in an impressive 5 hours and 37 minutes. Phil was 61st out of 226 in his age category, amazing Phil! As I am writing this the absolute machine Katie Margarson is about to finish her cycle in her full Ironman in Hamburg. Katie is on track for a 12 hour finish, fingers crossed!
There were also three Pacers in the Humpty Dumpty 10k, with Peter Bird finishing in 47.26 followed closely by Anita Ward in 49.10 and then Andrew Ward in 50.25. Great running to you all.
It was then the third of the Friday 5s at Sudbury, with Pacers having another set of impressive results with Will Hollands first home in 27.33 whilst back on his summer holiday from college in the US. Well done Will. There were also age category wins for Andrew Southwood, Chris Mower, Jenny Morgan, Stephen Mead, Fiona Cunnington and Haley Pritchard-Suttle – congratulationsall.
The race was part of both the Suffolk Grand Prix and the Pacers Grand Prix, with the latter updated here. You can enter the next race in the Senior Grand Prix, Brantham Fun Run 5 Miles here.
Our home leg of the Friday 5s is open for entries and do email Sandra who is ccd into this email if you can help on the night.

There has been a change in the Junior Grand Prix with the following:

Race 8 Stowe Friday Five fun run  26th June

Race 9  Kesgrave Kruisers fun run to race 9  28th June

More updates to come on this one soon!
Sunday Socials
Thank you very much to Anna who hosted some lovely trails and refreshments on Sunday. Next Sunday we will meet at West Stow at 9am for our social run, with tea and coffee in the cafe after, please bring cake if you would like to. We will meet in the car park, the layby opposite is now blocked by the Forestry Commission so you will need to pay for parking. The car park (IP28 6HG) generally opens at around 8.50am.
Have a great week all.
Lara
