Last Saturday 6th September saw the final of the Eastern Masters Track and Field League.
The final, held at Grays in Essex, consisted of the best eight clubs from the three league areas. St Edmund Pacers ladies, combined with Newmarket Joggers and west Suffolk AC had achieved a well earned place in the final.
We were blessed with sunny weather although the strong wind in the home straight put paid to and PBs in the sprint races.
Only seven ladies were available on the day, due to injury or unavailability, but fortunately several athletes opted to take on more than their usual events.
The 35-49 ladies were Helen from Pacers and Laura , Newmarket, and between them they covered all the running events, plus several field events. Helen setting PBs in both her running events. Cheryll from Newmarket took on the javelin, and just missed out on a PB.
Eloise was the lone scorer in the 50 -59 age group and should be given ´woman of the match ´ for competing in 10 events, 5 track and 5 field and amassed a total of 36 points for the team.
Christine, Elke and Dawn from WSAC covered nearly all of the 60-69 age group events. Christine winning the 200m, 400m and 800m. Dawn covered 8 events and had a brilliant 2nd in the 80m hurdles.
The last event of the day was the relay, 400m, 200m, 200m 400m.
Helen, Laura, Christine and Elke ran against younger teams to get a 4th place out of 8 teams.
Our composite team scored a total of 152 points to achieve 6th place overall. The winning Ladies team was Thurrock,Loughton.
