Ekiden relay

Hi All,
Another busy weekend for Pacers with the last of the Friday 5 events at Great Bentley and then Ekiden Relay. A few members ran at both the Wroxham 5k and Masters Athletics event in the week too, a report of the latter is below. There were a few PBs at Wroxham, well done to all those who ran.
It was amazing to see so many members collect their Friday 5 league trophies at Ekiden -well done Katie King, Anita Ward, Stacey Mockford, Jenny Morgan, Joshua Wigmore, Andrew Southwood, Nigel Schofield and Rob Morgan for top three finishes. We also won the ladies, men’s and combined team trophies and on the junior side we won the combined and girls, with the boys second. Millie McNeill, Isla Southwood, Bethan Southwood, Vincent Parker, Kyan McNeill, Jack Seager and Oliver Lambert received trophies for finishing in the top three. Absolutely superb – well done to everyone who ran in any race to help gain these titles!
Back to Ekiden, where we had a huge 13 senior teams, as well as many junior teams including many mini members – some of which who ran in their first event – congratulations! The full results are still to be confirmed but there were two teams wins including the men’s open which a real achievement. Our Ladies Vets team were also the joint fastest female team and won their division. Thank you to Ian for organising so many people, Mel for making sure we all had the right numbers and collecting lost property and Cath for the face paints. This is a true team effort so thank you to everyone who helped,  cheered and cleared up at the end. If you attend an event, do please volunteer to help set up or pack away the marquees – we always need help!

Masters Athletics – Latest Event

July 1st saw the third Eastern Masters league match at Peterborough .
We fielded a total of 18 athletes, 9 ladies and 9 men, in our composite team with Newmarket Joggers and West Suffolk AC.
Pacers provided 8 athletes , plus one field official Aiden Elmore.
Luckily temperatures had dropped by the evening and we were blessed with sunny, though a little windy, but almost perfect conditions.
The first track event was the men’s 100m, Andy Ward and Howard Beasley both managing PBs . Howard getting a valuable 2nd in his race.In the ladies 100m, both Catherine and Christine won their races and were rewarded with PBs too.
Eloise came straight over from the high jump, which she had won, to record a seasons best in the 100m.Next track was the mile, where our composite team dominated the race. With Elke Hausler winning the W60, Cienna Carter from NJ winning the W50 and Helen Baldwin, Pacers 2nd overall.
In the men’s race, Howard came a credible 3rd, with Andy not far behind.Both Howard and Andy competed in the 2000m walk , Howard winning his category, with Andy very close.

Elke and Eloise also took part in this gruelling event.The 400m produced some more strong events from Pacers. Helen placing second in her race and Christine winning hers.

In the field events, new member Dave Valentine won the hammer.

In the women’s field, Pammy Kaur took part in her first ever hammer and shot competition, joined by Eloise and Dawn. All scoring valuable points for the team.

In the long jump and high jump,  Catherine won the long jump and came second in the high jump with a PB. Eloise won the high jump in her age and came a valuable 3rd in the long jump.
Dawn also competed in the long jump for the W60.

The event cumulated in the 4 x 100m relays.
Due to injury the men could only field one relay team , Howard had to run against 35 year olds! But it was a competitive race.

The women fielded 2 relay teams and managed 2nd in both age groups.
Overall the women placed 3rd on the night and men 4th. Though teams 2nd to 4th are all very close.
Our next event is at Kings Lynn on July 30th where the events are 200m, 800m, 3000m and long hurdles, discus, javelin, triple jump, pole vault, relay.
