Stunning weather and great to be in the company of so many Pacers and having 6 Pacer men in the top 14 was real dominance, so well worth the outing! Having now seen the results, great to see we won the ladies and the combined team SWLoverall.

On a personal level, I went off quite hard to try and gauge where I was fitness-wise and I did fade and drop back a few places just after the halfway mark before holding the subsequent position to the finish. It was a slightly frustrating result as it didn’t show any real sign of progress from my result at the Tarpley 10 a month earlier, but then as soon as I arrived and saw the course I knew it was not suited to me with very few parts where I could get into a consistent stride and hold a fast pace, but on the other hand as it’s far from an ideal course for me it does mean it was a really good workout. 

March has gone much as I expected it to – not able to increase the volume of training as much as I’d ideally like due to other commitments, but I’m 4 – 5 kilos lighter than I was in January and I'm feeling stronger and fitter so I know if I’m patient and get some interval sessions in, then I’m not too far away from making a big stride forward.

For now, off-road runs in Ickworth are still my priority, partly because of my next race, but also because I’m playing catch-up having missed the first half of proper winter training.

Next up is the An Res Hellys multi-terrain 10 mile race in Helston, Cornwall in two weeks time – it looks like a stunning route and strong field with the first 6 or so running under 60 minutes on a hilly off-road course, so it’ll certainly be a good workout! Apart from it being a much-needed holiday in Cornwall – I’m really looking forward to some runs by the sea and hopefully the odd chilly swim in it too!

After Easter, in amongst a very busy time with work, I need to focus on speed work so I’m ready to cope with the faster pace of shorter races planned: Alton Water 10k, possibly one more race at the end of May / early June and then the Sudbury, Bury and Stowmarket Friday 5s.
