St Edmunds Centurion Walks

By Steve February 27th, 2017

Here is an event to be held in Bury St Edmunds that might take your fancy if you want to compete in something different as well as going along to support, here is a copy of the letter on the Suffolk Athletics web site which I hope will explain what the even is about, where and when it is being held. Just be aware that this walking event is not a walk in the park, these are fast walkers but it could be an enjoyable and different event to compete in or attend.

I am helping to organize this year’s flagship Centurion race walking event. Walkers who aspire to qualify as Centurions must walk 100 miles within 24 hours to qualify. This year’s race will be held at Bury St Edmunds in August and we are also hosting another event in April to test the course. We would be grateful if you would circulate the following details to clubs that might be interested.

2017 Centurion – 5th/6th August 2017

You are warmly invited to this year’s Centurion race walk which will be held in Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk over the weekend of Saturday 5th/ Sunday 6th August 2017.   It will be held on a route round the Moreton Hall estate on the outskirts of Bury St Edmunds using a 2 mile lap on the network of cycle paths. The surfaces are good so it is a course suitable for some fast times. The event will include races at 100, 50 and 20 miles and judging will be under Category ‘B’ race walking rules.

The Moreton Hall estate is just off the A14 so easily accessible by car. For those travelling by train, a bus goes from the railway station to the location.

Full details about the 100 miles are can be found and the Centurion website(

 Test event – 8th April 2017

You are also invited to come to Bury St. Edmunds on 8th April for the opportunity to test the course by taking part in either a 6 mile or 8 mile race walk on the same course as the 100 miles. Please email the race organiser to let them know you intend to race. The £6.00 entry fee is payable on arrival. Registration is from 12:00pm at  the Skyliner Sports Centre, Sybil Andrews Academy, Rougham Tower Avenue, Bury St Edmunds IP32 7QB.

You are welcome to post details of these races on your website and noticeboards. We hope to see some of your members there!
