Relay- Relay- Relay - Hereward Relay 25th November 2007- Heres how to enter!

Fresh from the success of the recent Round Norfolk Relay comes another opportunity for all members to register an interest in taking part in the Hereward Relay on the 25th of November 2007. If any club members want to take part or get involved in the day please contact Dave Overman at this email address david.overman@gtc-uk.co.uk or by phone on 01359 242796 or on Monday nights at the track.

The event starts at 9 am from Peterborough Cathedral and follows the Hereward Way for 38.4 miles to Ely Cathedral, crossing over bridleways, fields, bridges and tracks. Teams consist of 4 runners and the Club will meet the cost of entry. The club has a proud tradition of winning this event two years running in 2004 and 2005 but didn'nt enter a team last year. Dave would like to get as many teams as possible entered so don't be shy every member is welcome.

Cross Country 2007-8

In my opinion It doesn't get any better than cross country, it is what running is all about. As we get the fixtures these are being added under the cross country section. You will see dates posted for the Suffolk Winter league, EACC Wednesday league and the Ryston Series . If you would like to enter then either send an e-mail to info@pacers.org.uk or ask next time you are at the track. Your entry would be much appreciated. If you need help with a lift/transport to run in a race why not ask on the new running forum.

Round Norfolk Relay Race 15/16th September 07

Saint Edmunds Pacers have put together a team to compete in the Round Norfolk Relay Race on the 15th and 16th September. The route follows the course of the Norfolk boundary over a distance of 193 miles and is divided into 17 stages from 5 miles to 20 miles in length. Being a relay the race is continous and goes through the night with competing teams finishing on Sunday morning around 9 to 10am.

We have a team of runners but we are still looking for volunteers to act as support drivers and as timekeepers. If you can help or would like to know more either have a word with one of the coaches or committee members at the track or post an e-mail to info@pacers.org.uk. We would be grateful for any support for this unique run. It looks like being a lot of fun!

AGM

The Saint Edmund Pacers AGM will be held on the 4th of October at 7.30pm at the Odd Fellows Hall in Bury St Edmunds. All members are welcome. The Secretary of the Club Roy Miller will be writing to you all with further details in the very near future.

Our Web Site

A big thanks goes to the previous webmaster Julian Long for all his efforts in establishing the current website for the Saint Edmund Pacers. It is not to be underestimated how much time and effort has gone into this. However you will have noticed that in recent weeks the site hasn’t been updated on a regular basis as a volunteer was sort to take over these duties. I have volunteered to give this a go and I am looking for your thoughts and ideas of what you would like to see in your website. It may take some time to meet any of your suggestions an for the meantime you can consider the site to be under re-construction but please let me have your ideas addressed to Paul Clarke at the usual e-mail info@pacers.org.uk

How to Join the Pacers

In due course we will update this with a separate link and page but for now if you are wondering how and if you can join our running club then the answer is yes! You will be most welcome to attend the club training nights which are held on Monday and Wednesday at 6.30pm at the West Suffolk Athletics Track.

The club caters for all ages; all standards from beginners to marathon runners, there is good gender mix and a healthy junior section. If you make your way down the steps from the Abbeycroft Leisure Centre to the track just make yourself known and one of the coaches will make you feel welcome. The first two sessions are free so why not give it a try. If after this you would like to join then let us know and we can provide you with a membership form.

If you prefer not to attend club nights but still wish to receive the benefits of membership, then please e-mail us at info@pacers.org.uk. We are also happy to accept your membership and hope you will compete for the club.
